The Kitchen Unit, working together as a team, provides meals for members seven days a week. The Kitchen Unit serves three meals a day, Monday through Friday. Breaksfast is served from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Prices for breakfast vary from 25 cents for toast to one dollar for a full breakfast including eggs, toast, hash browns, and bacon. Lunch is served twice a day due to limited seating. Kitchen workers and waitstaff eat lunch at 11:30 a.m. while all others eat at 12:00 p.m. Lunch costs $1.50 for a regular size lunch, $2.00 for a large lunch. Salads are served as an alternative, and can be ordered by 10:30 a.m. Dinner, served at 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, is free of charge. On Saturdays and Sundays, lunch is served between 12:15 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., and costs $1.00.

During the work-ordered day, members and staff of the Kitchen Unit work alongside each other. Work in the kitchen may include: meal preparation; menu planning; dish washing; snack preparation for meetings; rotation of perishable goods such as dairy products and produce; creating shopping lists; shopping for groceries; setting up and managing prepay accounts for members; setting tables; washing and drying table clothes, napkins, hand towels, and aprons. In addition, the Kitchen Unit ensures compliance with Lowell Health Department regulations by making sure members and staff wash their hands and wear gloves when working with food or serving food.

At mealtime, members and staff take turns rotating as waitstaff. Waitstaff are responsible for collecting meal tickets from members seated in the diningroom, serving meals to members, and making sure the diningroom is left clean after meals.

The Kitchen Unit always welcomes new members.
